Remember last January , when a backup quarterback led his team to a 38-7 victory over the vaunted Minnesota Vikings defense, preventing the purple team from making it to the Super Bowl?We do, and we’re fairly certain Vikings fans do as well. Today we will see a rematch of last year’s NFC Championship Game between the Vikings and the Philadelphia Eagles, but both teams will have different quarterbacks under center than the ones who started in that contest. The Vikings let Case Keenum walk in the offseason, signing Kirk Cousins in free agency. For Philadelphia, Carson Wentz is back from injury, taking his job back from Nick Foles. That game takes place in the afternoon time slot, between the Green Bay Packers’ divisional game at the Detroit Lions and an all-Texas affair on Sunday Night Football between the Cowboys and Texans. Here’s your full schedule for today’s games.Early GamesAll games at 1:00 PM ET/12 Noon CTGreen Bay Packers at Detroit LionsFord FieldDetroit, MIFOXJacksonville Jaguars at Kansas City ChiefsArrowhead StadiumKansas City, MOCBSDenver Broncos at New York JetsMetLife StadiumEast Rutherford , NJCBSMiami Dolphins at Cincinnati BengalsPaul Brown StadiumCincinnati, OHCBSTennessee Titans at Buffalo BillsNew Era FieldBuffalo, NYCBSBaltimore Ravens at Cleveland BrownsFirstEnergy StadiumCleveland, OHCBSNew York Giants at Carolina PanthersBank of America FieldCharlotte, NCFOXAtlanta Falcons at Pittsburgh SteelersHeinz FieldPittsburgh, PAFOXAfternoon GamesOakland Raiders at Los Angeles Chargers1:05 PM PT (4:05 ET)StubHub CenterCarson, CACBSMinnesota Vikings at Philadelphia Eagles4:25 PM ETLincoln Financial FieldPhiladelphia, PAFOXLos Angeles Rams at Seattle Seahawks1:25 PM PT (4:25 ET)CenturyLink FieldSeattle, WAFOXArizona Cardinals at San Francisco 49ers1:25 PM PT (4:25 ET)Levi’s StadiumSanta Clara, CAFOXSunday Night FootballDallas Cowboys at Houston Texans7:20 PM CT (8:20 ET)NRG StadiumHouston , TXNBCPackers ‘plan’ to keep Tim Boyle on 53-man roster after Hundley trade, per report The Green Bay Packers made a big move to settle their quarterback room on Wednesday morning, trading backup Brett Hundley to the Seattle Seahawks for a sixth-round pick in next year’s NFL Draft. The obvious fallout from this decision is that DeShone Kizer has earned the right to back up Aaron Rodgers and will be the second quarterback on the Packers’ 53-man roster when final cuts come down on Saturday. However, the status of undrafted rookie Tim Boyle remained a bit of a question. Boyle impressed in the first two games of the preseason before seeing no action in game three. However, the Packers apparently are so impressed with him that they are unwilling to expose him to waivers and try to get him onto their practice squad for this season. That news comes from ESPN’s Rob Demovsky, who reports that the Packers currently plan to keep both Kizer and Boyle on the 53-man roster.Seeing this decision immediately brings to mind parallels to the 2017 preseason. Last year, the Packers had an established backup in Hundley, but they saw an undrafted rookie, Taysom Hill, impress in preseason action. Rather than keeping three quarterbacks on the active roster , they cut Hill and exposed him to waivers in an attempt to get him onto their practice squad. However, the New Orleans Saints claimed Hill for their active roster, preventing the Packers from retaining him.It appears that missing out on Hill is affecting the Packers’ decision-making process this summer. Boyle has showed a strong arm in camp and has played well, but the fact remains that he is an undrafted rookie who threw more interceptions than touchdowns in college. Furthermore, the Packers are facing difficult numbers games at other positions on the roster, such as running back, offensive line, and in the secondary. Keeping a third quarterback would mean that the team would have to subtract another player from one of those other positions.Final cuts are due at 4:00 PM Eastern Time on Saturday. Stay tuned to APC for full coverage of the Packers’ preseason finale in Kansas City on Thursday and all of cut-down weekend.
